Realizing Resonance started back in 2010 as an imaginary rock band for the purposes of The Band Practice Dialogues, a series of philosophical discussions between four guys at band practice. The name Realizing Resonance was taken from the title of my blog where I published the dialogues, along with many other articles about philosophy, music, economics, and politics. I had played guitar in rocks bands at different times going back to 1993, and the atmosphere of band practice seemed to make for a fun way to discuss deep philosophical issues.

Fast forward to the summer of 2022 when I was inspired to record some songs that had been playing in my head for the last 20 years. The ability to produce and publish DIY music has never been more accessible with the advent of digital production techniques and streaming services. I invested in a new laptop, a microphone, DAW equipment and software, and suddenly found myself passionately working on new songs just about every week. When thinking about what to call the project, it occurred to me that Realizing Resonance would make for great name for a real musical artist, not just a fake band.

At first, I just made songs to share with my family and friends, but as the music progressed, I soon found myself with ten songs that I could create a whole album from. Originally, I thought to call the collection Artificial Intelligence, which is the first single and first song on the album. However, I found that this title created confusion, with listeners expecting to hear music that was actually created by an AI. Well, I can safely say that no AIs were harmed in the creation of The Labyrinth album.

The Labyrinth is a collection of ten songs that deal with the human condition in a variety of facets. The concept of a labyrinth serves as a metaphor for what it is like to travel through life. The Labyrinth is a twisting path through the gauntlet of human emotions, loss, love, anxiety, hope, confusion, and joy. The musical style is a synthesis of sounds that span genre and decade, although I draw the most inspiration from 1980s hard rock and new wave.
